Coronavirus – that’s a term that floats around and a lot of conversations these days. It pops up on my phone about every day with something new that has impacted our country and I even work in the hospital, I’m a nurse and I’ve seen a lot of changes there – restrictions, and I know that in a lot of hospitals we’re running out of supplies to even protect ourselves like with masks and other protection so what are we gonna do about this? Maybe you’re concerned about getting the virus maybe you’re not, I’m just going to share a few short videos of how you can protect yourself by building up your immune system.
Did you know that you have a lot of immune cells in your gastrointestinal tract? Yeah, so nutrition is important anytime but especially right now. When we need our immune systems in the greatest working order.
Eating a balanced diet is essential. So what does a balanced diet look like? Well, you want to make sure you’re getting your whole grains your fruits vegetables legumes and nuts and seeds. So, I have a few examples here because you might wonder how can I fill my fridge or my pantry with things that will last long that are healthy? In fact it’s getting hard to find healthy things in the store that are inexpensive and that will last a long time.
I have a couple things here to show. For one, apples. Apples last a long time in the fridge and these are full of vitamins and minerals that are essential for your body Also oranges oranges are delicious I love oranges and they last a long time full of Vitamin C and other vitamins that will just help build your immune system I have a banana.
Now these maybe don’t last as long but once they ripen, they can go right in the freezer and you can use it to make smoothies banana bread other things that you might like. Carrots of course. Carrots are great for many vitamins and minerals as well and these lasts a long time in my fridge at least, and you can cook them, you can eat them fresh.
It just gives that extra crunch. I have here a bowl of black beans – example of legumes. These are dried and these last a long time. You can buy up on these and you don’t have to worry about them spoiling or cans that take up space.
And I have a bag here of whole grain bread. Now there’s many other things you could add to your list, but these are just a few examples of what you can do to keep yourself healthy. Now in this time of such uncertainty you might be wondering you know, what’s gonna happen? I’m out of work, I don’t know what to do.
Can I even afford food? So there’s a verse that I found really encouraging. It’s found in the Bible in Psalm 37:25 It’s written by King David, and he says, “I have been young and now I’m old yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread.
” There’s someone who you can always count on and put your trust in. That’s Jesus. As I just read, when you put your trust in him, he will definitely take care of you. So by up on those good foods and stay healthy!
